A healthy diet will give you the energy you need to face your exams

Getting up early, going to class and spending the rest of the day in the library, an exhausting routine that many students are going to repeat throughout the next few weeks. If you think you’re lacking in energy, watch what you eat! Follow this easy advice and you’ll notice a big difference... you’ll be full of vitality and you’ll manage to concentrate better, which will allow you to give a much better performance on your next exams.

-Breakfast like a king. So you get up with just enough time to rush off to class or get to the library and you don’t have time for breakfast? Big mistake! Remember that to start the day full of energy you have to make time for a complete breakfast, including fruits, cereal or other carbohydrates and some dairy product. That will activate your organism, and from the start you’ll have the vitality you need to face the day.

-Goodhydration. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle to class or the library. You need to drink more than 2 litres of water per day. Good hydration will help your body maintain balance and improve concentration.

-Less coffee. Weeks of study are linked to stimulants like coffee... Try to kiss this habit goodbye by substituting other healthier options like tea. Too much coffee will make it harder to concentrate and will keep you from sleeping well, which means the next day you’ll be more tired.

-Energy-filled foods. Remember that the best way to activate your body is by eating between 5 and 6 times per day. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner, that way your organism will be active, you’ll eat smaller portions and digestion will be much easier.

In addition to this advice, around exam time opt for foods that fill you with energy, such as:

-Nuts. They’re the quintessential energy food. They contain a lot of fatty acids, very beneficial to the organism, and minerals like magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. A small servingof nuts per day will increase your capacity to concentrate and will also help protect you from vascular diseases.

-The banana. Eating plenty of fruit is not just important during exam season, but all year round. But if you want a fruit that gives you an instant boost of energy then you want the banana. Its simple sugars and high levels of potassium and magnesium will keep your brain in tip-top shape.

-Thekiwi. If you’re looking to strengthen your memory, choose kiwis. Their high calcium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium content make them the perfect food for strengthening the memory and fighting fatigue, both mental and physical; perfect for studying.

- Pasta. Rice, macaroni, spaghetti, what do you prefer? If you want to make sure your energy level stays up all afternoon, choose pasta. Its complex carbohydrates will be absorbed slowly, maintaining a stable blood sugar level and improving your concentration.

-Lessjunk food. During exam season people tend to abuse junk food, as they have little time to cook, which is a big mistake, because prepared food generally has more fat and calories, which will make digestion slower and promote tiredness and fatigue.

These little changes will yield major results, and if you keep eating healthy all year, you can say goodbye to tiredness.
